How do I edit my media from an external hard drive?
No matter how many gigabytes your brand new iPad has, as a video editor, you are bound to run out of space eventually. With the release of LumaFusion 3.0 you now have the option to edit directly from an external SSD. That means you no more filling your iPad up with cached media from your LumaFusion projects.
NOTE: This only works on iPads with Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C connections. For more information please see the FAQ: Is External Drive Editing possible on a device that has a lightning port?
You can access external drives directly from the Files Library in LumaFusion on iPads with USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports.
- Tap 'Library Source.'
- Tap 'Files.'
- In the Files Library Tap 'Add Link to Folder': You can connect to your entire drive, or select a specific folder to access your media.
You will now see the folders you've linked on your SSD in the library.
Now you are ready to access all your media off the selected drive and you can edit as you ordinarily would in LumaFusion.
*This function is by default turned on in LumaFusion. To check this setting, go to Help & Settings > Preferences > Advanced Settings and make sure the toggle is turned ON for External Drive Editing. It can be turned off if needed, allowing media to be copied from external drive to your device's storage.
**We don't have a list of recommended drives, but a drive with a quoted speed of 1050MBps or better is recommended.
